John Demmert was born in Petersburg, Alaska.
As a young Tlingit and Haida Native,  he started carving figures out of his grandfather's firewood.
It didn't take long for him to discover his artistic talents.
His endeavors carried on through high school where he met master carvers Richard Peck
and Walter Bennett who both inspired him to strive for excellence.

John brings out the colors and designs with crisp lines

that define his intensely detailed carvings
.
He uses colorful acrylic paint to bring the pieces
to life in a contemporary, yet traditional style.
.
All designs are original, trot out by the mind of the artist.
No two pieces are alike.

"This website is dedicated in loving memory to my grandparents,
Lena and James Kookesh Demmert"

"Gunalchéesh for your guidance and encouragement."
Love,
Johnny
